Pandemia • We All Went Home
Pandemia • We All Went Home is a middle-grade graphic novel that explores the challenges faced by children during the first few months of Covid, March -June 2020. Life completely changes for Em, a quirky third grader, when her school shuts down suddenly.
She experiences uncertainty and anxiety during lockdown with her single mother, who is an essential worker. Her grandmother from the city joins their “coronavirus bubble” to take care of Em.
The pandemic lasts longer than anyone anticipated. Em’s school building stays closed, but Remote School begins with its daily challenges for Em and her classmates. As the isolation continues, Em is profoundly lonely. To deal with her feelings, she creates a comic world where coronavirus doesn’t exist. Ultimately, Em is able to enjoy her best friend remotely as they create comic adventures together.
The struggles and joys are relatable in this heartwarming, intergenerational story of resiliency when the unimaginable happened to all of us.
School children ages 7-12+ will relate to the loneliness, difficulties with remote learning and questions about the future.
Readers in the home and the classroom are encouraged to sharetheir own pandemic story with an online community.
